Ready for NIS2 with Nessus

On 1 October 2026, Austria’s new Network and Information Systems Security Act 2026 (NISG 2026) came into force – the Austrian implementation of the NIS2 Directive.

The aim of the NIS2 Directive is to increase the resilience of companies against cyberattacks and IT outages and to establish a common high level of cybersecurity across the European Union. Companies that fall within its scope are obliged to report significant security incidents to the competent authorities within statutory deadlines.

What requirements does NIS2 bring for companies?

In contrast to NIS1, the scope of the NIS2 Directive extends to significantly more companies, from various industries and in defined sectors. For these companies, this entails extended cybersecurity requirements that they need to address in a targeted manner. In practice, NIS2 means, among other things, the following for the companies concerned:

  • Risk management
  • Mandatory security measures
  • Business continuity
  • Reporting obligations

Mandatory registration and possible consequences

If you have not yet looked into the NIS2 requirements, we recommend that you do so promptly. Companies concerned must register via the Austrian business service portal (Unternehmensserviceportal) by the end of the year. Violations of the legal requirements can result in severe penalties.
